There is very little in life that is 100% stable.
I think I've realized that much more in the past months than ever before. Maybe we've all begun to realize this in the past few years, and I'm just now figuring out how to put it into words.
My ability to run (and run well) isn't always stable, so I can't rely on that. My dating relationship isn't always stable, so I can't rely on that. People in general aren't always stable, so I can't really rely on them all the time. My grades aren't always stable, so I can't rely on that. My emotions definitely aren't always stable, so that's out of the question to rely on. What can I rely on, then?
This song, Promises, by Maverick City Music, is such a beautiful song to me. It gives me chills every time because it speaks the truth I need to hear so badly right now.
When everything is falling apart, God is stable. He is constant and He is faithful, and I can rely on Him.
Even when everything is falling apart (including my emotions), I can remain steadfast on God's promises in Scripture.
God is faithful, and because of that, even when everything is falling apart, I can still praise Him.
These lyrics remind me that God is unchangingly faithful and unchangingly good. These lyrics remind me that God's promises do come true, even when it might not feel like it. I'm reminded that God is still good, and it pushes me to praise in the midst of the storm. These lyrics remind me that Jesus is my anchor, keeping me grounded and secure when so little in this world is secure and stable. These lyrics remind me of the hope I have in Jesus because of the death He endured on the cross for my sins, struggles and pain, and for your sin, struggles and pain too.
Every time I hear this song, God's presence fills my soul and brings me such peace. Because life is unstable and unsteady and sometimes really hard, but even in the middle of all that, even in the darkest place, He is still faithful. He is still holding His hand out to me, ready to walk with me through all of the troubles that life throws at me. And He's extending the offer to you, too, if you want to take it.
God, You are so good. You are faithful and constant, even when everything else in my life seems to be the exact opposite. I'm tired, Lord. Thank You for being my strength in the midst of the crazy. Thank You for never giving up on me and always staying right by me, holding me grounded with Your word. Thank You for helping me not just survive, but thrive and overcome in this place. Thank You for being good. I pray that You would remind me of the promises You have spoken specifically over my life. Remind me of the ways You have pulled me through in the past, and please help me keep perspective even when it's hard. I praise You wholeheartedly, Lord. Thank You for helping me see You in the middle of the crazy. I love You. Amen.
