Freedom in the Free Fall + the peace and grace we find when we let go and let God

There's a song called "Over and Over" by Vertical Worship, and in the first verse, it says:

"There's freedom in the free fall, when I'm falling into You

God knows where I'm going, maybe I don't have to"

Originally, I was going to write a post about how to know where God is leading you. I was going to give you practical advice about how to recognize the Lord's voice and guidance in your life, and hopefully, be able to impart some wisdom from what the Lord has been teaching me lately.

And then I heard this song again. And those lines, they just pull at my heart, begging me to lean in and listen, to soak it in.

We're so busy trying to find out where God is taking us, what He wants us to do, that sometimes we miss the whole point of it.

The free fall.

The trusting, the grace clinging, faith unwavering free fall.

Recently, I've been praying a lot about the Father's will for some of my situations. I want to hear His voice, His wisdom and leading, so that I may walk in His plan for my life. Relationships, the blog, college, everything - it's all coming to Jesus, and I want to hear what He desires from me. Truly, it's from the right place, but sometimes, instead of hearing step by step instructions, there's just peace. There's a knowing that I don't have it all figured out right now, and that's okay. Because He does. He has it figured out.

There comes a point in our relationship with the Lord that we just have to let go. We have to let go of all the things we've clung to, all the advice we're getting from outside sources, all the "constants" we've been relying on, even our own heart - we have to let go of it all. We have to let go of it all in an act of surrender and trust that He is going to take care of it, and He has a good, good plan, and He will make it happen. Not out of our own strength, not out of our determination or smarts, but out of His good and perfect grace.

And there is beauty in that.

Ever since I was little, I've always wanted to go skydiving or bungee jumping with my dad. I'm not a huge adrenaline junkie, and I do not have an obsession trying to learn how to fly, but it seems so beautiful to just let go and fall. To not be holding onto anything, but just letting go and trusting that I will be safe, even as I fall. And I think that's what God wants us to do, in a way, as we walk with Him.

I think He wants us to let go, to trust that He's going to catch us at the bottom, and that we don't have to strive or work or stress so much, but that we can just let go and surrender. We can release the weight we've been holding onto for so long and allow Him to take control, to take the lead, instead of trying oh so hard to do it ourselves. All we have to do is open our hands in surrender and give it over to Him.

And friends, when we do this, there is more joy and peace than could ever be found in skydiving or bungee jumping. There's more joy and peace than could ever be found in doing it ourselves.

There's freedom.

There's freedom in letting go. In not having to do it ourselves. In giving ourselves grace to not have it all figured out. In trusting the Lord, instead of outside opinions or our own wits.

There is freedom in the free fall.

I don't know what you're holding onto today. I don't know what you're trying to figure out, or what you're wrestling with, or what you're desperately praying that God would give you clarity for. But I would encourage you, today, to just let it go. Give it to God. Trust that He is good, and He will figure it out. That He already does have it figured out, and that you can walk in His beautiful plan if you'd just allow Him to take the lead and let go of your own control.

Let it go. Say, "Father, I surrender to You. I give You everything that's on my heart, and I trust Your plan completely. It's all Yours."

And enjoy the freedom in the free fall as the weight lifts off your shoulders.

It is so easy for us to take control of our lives, to try to carry everything on our own - but we all know that gets heavy. So many of us feel weighed down, burdened, and drained because we're trying to do it all by ourselves. We forget that there is literally a God waiting to walk alongside us, to lift the weight from our shoulders, to catch us when we fall. He wants to fill you up and bless you with so much peace, joy, and freedom beyond what we can imagine or express.

So today, instead of continuing to try to do it by yourself, instead of trying to figure everything out, just pause. Surrender it to the Lord, and let it all go. Find the peace in the free fall.
